Reiki Healing

Reiki is thought to be an ancient Japanese form of healing, re-discovered by Dr Mikao Usui in the early 20th century and now widely practised throughout the West as well as in its original homeland. Like crystal healing, it works on a subtle level by re-balancing the body's energies and healing at physical, emotional and spiritual levels. The reiki energy is a loving, universal healing energy which can be channelled through the hands of initiated reiki practitioners to the recipient. Because it is divinely guided (the name comes from Japanese "rei" (divine power) and "ki" (life force energy), the energy goes directly to where it is needed by the recipient. Expressed simply, the thinking is that imbalances in the body's energy field, caused by negative emotions or experiences, eventually show up in the physical body and create problems there. If the energy imbalance or blockage is cleared before it gets to this stage, then it prevents damage to the physical body, and the reiki energy does the clearing.

Reiki is a complementary therapy, to be used in conjunction with rather than instead of conventional medicine, and can be of benefit to everyone. It calms and relaxes in times of stress, boosts the body's healing and enhances one's general well-being. A non-invasive therapy, it can be done with the recipient sitting or lying down and fully clothed.

Some examples of how reiki has helped people in my experience are outlined below:

M came to me for a general wellbeing treatment. While scanning her body for energy imbalances, I came across one in her hand. I asked her if she had a problem there: she initially didn't think so, but then realised it was her "mouse hand" which she used for the computer at work, and when she'd been at work she got a lot of pain in her little finger and arm from using the mouse: a kind of R.S.I. I gave her a full reiki treatment and then held the sore hand to put in extra energy for it. M felt heat in the hand, and then told me the heat was moving up her arm, as if it was following a nerve. She reports that she hasn't had any recurrence of the pain, even after a full day at work using the mouse.

S. also had a problem with her hand, but in her case it was a long standing arthritic joint in her little finger. I treated it for her after a full reiki session and she told me it felt much better than it had for a long time and she hadn't needed her painkilling gel on it since. It was still swollen but she felt it was easier to move. A few weeks later I gave her more reiki on it, and after that she said it was better than it had been for years, the heat and discomfort she normally had with it were gone and she had more flexibility in the joint as well.

C, a busy company director, just wanted to de-stress! Here is her experience, in her own words:
