About Earthereal of Yorkshire

My name is Lois Skilleter and I’m based in Ilkley, on the edge of the famous Moor and the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.

I began my business as “beads in yorkshire” in October 2005, when my former career as a supply teacher was taking me too far from my home and family. I decided I would like to be home based and to work for myself, and after several years making jewellery for myself and for family and friends, I decided to try and turn this hobby into a small business. I started to sell my work at local craft events, and to make to order for people as well as offering a party service, making jewellery with people in their homes.

Initially I worked more with beads, but I became increasingly fascinated by the sheer beauty and variety of natural gemstones, to the extent of buying a tumbler and tumble-polishing my own rough rock, to create “freeform” jewellery. This, to me, reflects the natural beauty of the stones themselves with the minimum of artificial treatment. I have also developed a feeling for the metaphysical healing qualities of the stones and out of this has come my new business name, “Earthereal”, reflecting both the earthly origin of the stones and their more spiritual meanings and qualities.

The natural progression from this interest seemed to be to learn how to use the stones to help people, which has led me to begin training as a crystal healing therapist. I know it is somewhat controversial, but all I can say is that before beginning my course, I researched the therapy, trying it out both as a “patient” and a therapist, and I honestly believe it has the power to help and heal people. I look forwards to qualifying and being able to practise this form of healing.

I still enjoy exhibiting at local craft fairs and making bespoke jewellery to order. I am delighted to make jewellery from particular stones that people have found helpful to them.

In addition, my online shop will soon be open for the sale of selected jewellery and polished stones and crystals.
